Karen Gates and Nancy Gibbs Do It Again

Karen Gates and Nancy Gibbs have recently been selected for Early American Life’s 2006 directory of Top Traditional American Crafts, which is featured in the current issue of the magazine (June). A painted cloth doll of Nancy's and two miniature punchneedle pictures of Karen’s were included in the photo shoot at Mystic, CT as well. This is the 21st edition of this directory which “celebrates the work of artisans who use traditional styles, media and techniques. A jury of 18 museum curators, antiquity dealers, collectors and educators carefully reviewed both written text and multiple photos of each craftsperson’s work to choose this listing of the best of the best.”

We Want Your Image
As an artisan, you know how important it is to promote your work in an appealing, visual manner.  We'd like to help you do just that -- for FREE -- while also helping promote the Bucks County Guild of Craftsmen.

The Guild is in need of high-quality images of its members' work.  We would like to use these images, with clear identification of the artist and work, in an upcoming postcard campaign, on our Guild website (which can link to your website, email, or contact information), and in marketing initiatives promoting our fall show.  You retain full ownership of the images and would receive a number of postcards containing your image that you could use for your own mailing/promotion.

If you already have good images of your work in digital form, slides, or color prints, please send them along to us (instructions are below)

If you do NOT have high-quality images of your work, we can help with that, too.  Bud Hohlfeld (wood turner extraordinaire and board member of the Guild) has graciously volunteered to assist members in photographing some of their work, using the photo lab setup in his home.  There would be no charge to do this and the only "catch" is that the images would be available for use by the Guild as just described.  It's a cost-free way for you to get print-quality digital images of several of your best pieces, which you can then use for slides for applications/competitions or your own promotional initiatives.  Talk about a win-win!

For each image we need the following information:
  • Your name and preferred public contact (email, phone, website)
  • The title/name of the piece (if applicable) or a brief description of it
  • A full description of the piece (include materials, as appropriate, as well as size, medium, function, or any other pertinent information)
  • Where you would like us to link from an image of this piece that appears online (for example, could be your email address, your website, or simply to text describing how to contact you)
  • If any attribution is necessary, please include that (for example, "Private collection of Hoozis" or "By permission of the Michener Museum")
We'd love to receive the first round of submissions by April 15th for a postcard run scheduled in May.  Images received after that may not be used in print until later in the year or early next year.  If you have any questions about how these images will be used, please feel free to contact Karen Goeller at kgoeller@nolimitations.com

To submit digital images, contact Karen Goeller at kgoeller@nolimitations.com or George Balock at gbalock@hotmail.com for details.  Print/slide images can be mailed to the following address (please indicate whether you would like them returned and, if so, include a SASE):
       Karen Goeller
       3315 Spruce Drive
       Doylestown, PA 18901

To arrange to take photos with Bud Hohlfeld, contact him directly at bhohlfeld@comcast.net

Thank you for your help.  Together we can make this a successful and quality marketing effort that benefits both you AND your Guild.
