About UsThe Bucks County Guild of Craftsmen was founded in 1950 by a group of Bucks County artisans and fine craftsmen interested in preserving craft skills and in reawakening interest in the practice of handcrafts. The Bucks County Guild affiliated with the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen (PGC) as a local chapter in 1952. Membership is open to anyone interested in crafts: active craftsmen, hobbyists, collectors, gallery owners, and patrons of the arts. According to state bylaws, everyone who joins the Bucks chapter must also become members of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen. Application for membership in the PGC and The Bucks County Guild of Craftsmen can be found by clicking HERE. Improving the Practice of Craft
The Bucks Guild works to help increase interest and quality in the practice of crafts in several ways. Our members are encouraged to participate in a jurying process, in which a selection of their work is reviewed by peer craftsmen. Work that meets Guild standards in areas of craftsmanship, design resolution, and material choices is accepted as "chapter juried." Craftsmen are also eligible to apply for State Juried status through the PGC. Find out more about jurying standards and how to apply for juried status. The Guild also has programs at most monthly meetings, designed to educate artisans and promote sharing of techniques, resources, and ideas across disciplines. We also work to promote opportunities for our members to show and sell their work. By organizing groups booths at shows, gallery group exhibitions, trunk shows, and other opportunities, we educate the public about fine craft and also help craftsmen access sales opportunities that might otherwise be beyond their reach. Who Are Our Members? The Bucks Guild is an all volunteer organization and its activities would be impossible without those members who become involved and contribute their skills. All members are encouraged to become active. PublicationsOur newsletter, The Buckskin, is distributed to all members every month except July and August. It includes articles concerning our monthly meetings, craft marketing and promotion, local opportunities, and classified ads of interest to members. Our MeetingsEveryone interested in craft is welcome to attend one of our meetings. Meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. on the 2nd Wednesday of each month (September through May) in the meeting room of the District Office, Boy Scouts of America, 1 Scout Way, Doylestown, PA (across the street from the Mercer Museum). The June meeting is customarily a family picnic and no meetings are held during July and August.
